I am truly excited to share with you the great news of the launch of our Saint Luke Parent Education Network (PEN)! As a principal and leader, I am most encouraged by this initiative as an effort coming from our Saint Luke parents as a school improvement to find new ways to open our doors to the community around us.
The inspiration for PEN sprang out of discussions with our school’s marketing team and their efforts to embody the spirit of our strategic plan to be a welcoming community and at the same time find new, creative and innovative ways to best partner with our parents and wider community. With the rise of so much information being consumed electronically, our mission with PEN is to create and foster real-time dialogues with our parents and broader community about lives of our young people at Saint Luke and beyond. As PEN develops in the coming years, we envision programming tied to student health and well-being, academic success and balance, and fostering a real, lived faith for our Bearcats. You can expect PEN to hold two to three programs each academic year for parents to look into the issues that face our children in a world that is constantly evolving and changing.
Our first PEN event at Saint Luke will occur on Wednesday April 5th. At 6:30 pm we will welcome Saint Ignatius College Prep and Fenwick High School athletic directors Paul Ickes and Scott Thies to speak on the topic of “Childhood Athletics: A Pathway to Character and Faith Formation”. As experts in some of the Chicagoland’s most prestigious high schools, Paul and Scott will speak on the potential of athletics as educational experience that holds incredible power to yield character and faith virtues for a lifetime. With so many of our Bearcats devoting time and energy to their athletics, this topic is of great importance and relevance for us as an entire community. As we look forward to the event, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Paul and Scott to our Saint Luke community.
