Week of April 24, 2017
Here is what's happening in room 201!
ASPIRE TESTING- TUES. - READING, WED. - MATH, THURS. - ENGLISH/WRITING, FRI. -SCIENCE
It is very important that the students are on time this week. Testing begins at the beginning of the day. If your child is late, they will need to sit in the office until testing is finished for that day.
Religion- The students will begin the Family Life books today. Your child will bring home a "Family Time" page. These begin each unit of the book. Our first lesson will deal with "Being Needed." They will understand how their family depends on them. They will create a chart to show how their family, friends, and classmates all depend on them. Students will also learn about the life of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.
This year's theme - "Do small things with great love." St. Theresa of Calcutta.
Reading- The week, the students will start to read the book The Lemonade War. Students will work together, as a class, and in small groups throughout this book. The week we will focus on new vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, similes, idioms, and personification.
Please initial your child's reading log after they have read for 20 minutes. They are required to read 20 minutes a day. April reading log is due on Monday, May 1st. The students will receive their last reading log on May 1st.
Students have been given the information they need to go online to access our reading series. The website it www-k6thinkcentral.com. Their user name is the first letter of his/her first name and full last name 2015. Example: jsmith2015. The password is bearcat.
Language Arts/ Spelling- Students will be reviewing different grammar concepts. ( contractions, simple and compound sentences, capitalization, complete sentences, fragments and run-on sentences, and editing. We will also be working with a list of spelling words this week. There will not be a test on Friday.
Social Studies- The State Fair posters are looking fantastic! Students will continue to work on their posters this week. The poster is to be done by this Friday. If your child's poster is not finished by Friday, they will be staying in for recess next week to complete their posters.
State Fair is Tuesday, May 9th from 1:45 to 2:45 P.M. It will be held in Waldron Hall. Parents are welcome.
The speech portion of the project is to be done at home. Students needs to give me a list of three people they would like to research. I will let them know if the people are appropriate for this project.
Math- Ms. Fegan, Mrs. Merrill, and I are all teaching math. Please check your child's teacher's website on math information.
This week we will continue to learn how to measure and create angles using a protractor. We will also move on to learning about quadrilaterals and other polygons.
We will be using the IXL math on-line program this year. Students will be asked to practice certain skills at home. The website, to sign-in, is ixl.com/signin/slps. The students know their user name and password.
Please continue to work on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts at home.
Students are more than welcome to get extra math help on Mondays, and Tuesdays during their lunch recess time.
